This page is in Memory of those who
have supported BBBS:
To quote Andy Michael, “Ray was an extraordinary man who was ‘larger
than life and such a visionary.’”  In the midst of our celebration, we are
saddened by the loss of Ray S. Johnston.  In addition to being a pillar in
the local community, he has been an avid supporter of Big Brothers Big
Sisters for countless years.  It was easy to see Ray’s love of life just by
looking at him.

Johnston would want to be remembered as a philosopher and historian,
but those who knew him best will remember Johnston for much more
than that. He was a man who lived life to the fullest, worked hard and
had a wide range of interests, from community development and travel
to airplanes and golf.

Johnston's commitment to the community was phenomenal, and he
always wanted to help improve local government agencies and the
education system.

Department
1978- 2008
Pfc. Roger E. "JR" Butcher gave back to his community time after time in his
life. And when he was stricken with cancer in 2007, the community he had
put his heart and soul into did its best to give back to Butcher and his family.

"He fought a good fight," said Martinsburg Chief of Police T.C. "Ted"
Anderson.

"JR will be greatly missed by this community," Anderson said. "He's the type
of police officer that garnered respect from the public because he treated
you in the proper manner. Most especially, young people in Martinsburg
are going to miss his wisdom and caring heart."

During his career at with the department, his assignments included
assistant firearms instructor, member of the emergency response team,
advisor to the Martinsburg Police Department Explorer Post No. 27,
Martinsburg Police Department Bicycle Unit and past coordinator of the
"Bigs in Blue" program with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
